Just as the Rooftop Rodeo Committee is busy with plans for the annual rodeo, the Fine Arts Guild of the Rockies is finalizing the lineup for its third annual Rooftop Rodeo Western Art Show.
Many talented and well-known artists from throughout the west are expected at the July 20 and 21 show in Bond Park.
Among those coming from California are Richard A. Myer and Marylou Slinkard, organizer Carol Ball noted.
Western bronzes are the specialty of Myer.
The Glendora, Calif., artist had his first introduction to the west in 1940, while on a family trip visiting Indian reservations and historical ruins.
After serving in the Army Special Services in Japan painting murals, he attended Brigham Young University and received his bachelor’s degree in art in 1952.
He then returned to the east to take advanced classes at the Art Students League and the Sculpture Center.
While working as an assistant art director in New Jersey, Myer painted, exhibited and taught.
In 1970 he moved to California, becoming head designer for Classic Bronze, where he learned the casting process.
Myer now does all of the steps of casting his bronzes himself.
He is a member of the American Indian and Cowboy Artists, and has won many awards, including gold medals in sculpture at AICA exhibitions.
