Festival Draws Western Artists

San Dimas/La Verne Highlander April 18, 2002

Sculptor Richard Myer of Glendora exhibits his western themed works at festivals all over the country.

But he’s got a soft spot for his hometown-well almost hometown-festival.

“They have a lot of things going on: the auction, the quick-draw competition and the cowboy poets.” Myer said of the San Dimas Festival of Western Arts. “They feed you well and they take good care of you and just treat artists very well.”

This year’s festival will be held April 26-28 at the San Dimas Civic Center community building, 245 W. Bonita Ave.

During the festival, the city will unveil the recently installed “Cornerstones of Freedom” sculpture created by James Muir.

Bob Poff, festival organizer, said the festival selects the best artists from all over the country. “This is the only cultural thing like it in the immediate area,” he said.
